Sun Sounds of Arizona

Sun Sounds is a radio reading and information access service for Sun Sounds mascot, Fargo, a dog, is wearing head phones and appears to be speaking into the microphonepeople who cannot use printed material due to a disability.  49,000 people across Arizona rely on Sun Sounds and its 500 volunteers for access to local and national newspapers, magazines, weekly grocery ads, and books. Sun Sounds breaks isolation and dependency for hundreds of Arizonans.

Listeners who are visually impaired, or who find it difficult to hold or understand printed material have access to daily newspapers, make their own grocery lists, listen to the One-Book Arizona campaign, and during the elections, hear printed election materials through our Voter Information Project (VIP) on Sun Dial, a telephone-based system.  When a print-disability can exclude one from information, Sun Sounds includes listeners in the events going on around them, both locally and nationally

Sun Sounds’ commitment to accessible information leads every person with a disability to a more self-directed and independent life.
