MCCCD Welcomes Dr. Geremie Sawadogo, Director of International and Intercultural Education

Dr. Geremie Sawadogo has been named the new director of international and intercultural education for the Maricopa District. Dr. Sawadogo has served as the Peace Corps Director in Benin, West Africa for the past five years. He also served as Professor of International Education at the School for International Training in Vermont from 1993 to 1997 and as the Director of International Education at Bristol Community College in Massachusetts from 1988 to 1990.

Dr. Sawadogo holds a Ph.D. in International and Comparative Education from the University of Iowa and a B.A. in Ethnolinguistics and an M.A. in French Teaching from the University of Ouagadougou (located in Burkina Faso, West Africa). He is fluent in English, French, and Moore.

As the director of international and intercultural education, Dr. Sawadogo will assist the colleges in developing and promoting international and intercultural education programs for the students, staff and the community. The district will provide leadership for new and innovative faculty and student centered programs aimed at training globally competent individuals who value and respect cultural differences. Initially, he hopes to develop and implement a comprehensive strategy to develop new exchange programs, increase our ability to recruit and retain international students, and develop activities to increase the interface between international and intercultural education.
