Diversity Coordinators Reach Out!
One of the priorities for the Diversity Coordinators this year was to build awareness for the importance of diversity at their colleges and sites. A subcommittee worked to develop a brochure and PowerPoint that tell the story of diversity and inclusiveness efforts at Maricopa.
The contents of the brochure:
- References the organizational commitment to diversity from the Chancellor, the Governing Board and the Diversity Advisory Council.
- States the importance of diversity and inclusiveness as core to Maricopa’s mission.
- Describes the benefits of diversity and inclusiveness to students and employees.
- Provides Maricopa’s definitions of Diversity and Inclusiveness.
- Enumerates what each of us as employees can do to enhance Maricopa’s success through diversity.
- Lists some opportunities to expand our knowledge and skills related to diversity.
The subcommittee also designed a nine minute PowerPoint that provides context for the brochure. Some 1,200 Maricopans have already seen the presentation and received flyers.

The Maricopa Community Colleges recognize that core to organizational and student success are the effective management of diversity and the intentional creation of inclusive environments for learning.
All ten Maricopa Community Colleges, the District Office and the Maricopa Skills Center have an appointed Diversity Coordinator. Their responsibilities include: representing their college/site at Diversity Advisory Council meetings, participating on their college/site diversity committee, being a voice for diversity and inclusiveness at their college/site, facilitating learning opportunities and events at their college/site and collecting data at their college or site.
