Chesrown March 29, 2001 Maricopa Community Colleges Increase Enrollment for Spring 2001 by 5.7% The 45th day enrollment for spring 2001 is up for all ten of the Maricopa Community Colleges. The number of students attending the Maricopa Community Colleges has risen 5.7% since spring 2000. These numbers do not reflect short-term, open-entry/open-exit or the skill center enrollments. Greater Phoenix - Enrollment in credit courses for the spring semester 2001 has increased by 5.7% over the spring semester 2000 at the Maricopa Community Colleges. The actual increase in students in credit courses is 5,577, according to the Maricopa Community College District Office of Institutional Research. Overall, 102,844 students are enrolled in spring 2001 credit classes. (Thousands of additional students are enrolled in special interest, non-credit classes, workforce development courses or at the skill centers.) The Maricopa Community Colleges is the nation's largest multi-college community college district in the nation. More than 264,000 students are enrolled year annually in credit and special interest classes, as well as business and workforce training. Moreover, the District is the largest provider of higher education in Arizona and the largest single provider of health workers in Arizona. More than 60% of juniors and seniors at Arizona State University have taken (or concurrently are enrolled in) classes at one of the Maricopa Community Colleges. The Maricopa Community Colleges include: Chandler-Gilbert Community College; Estrella Mountain Community College; GateWay Community College; Glendale Community College; Mesa Community College; Paradise Valley Community College; Phoenix College; Rio Salado College; Scottsdale Community College, South Mountain Community College, Maricopa Skill Center; Estrella Mountain Skill Center and numerous other centers and sites throughout Maricopa County. .
