WHAT: MARICOPA COMMUNITY COLLEGES MAKE WORKFORCE TRAINING COMMITMENT TO BIOTECH INDUSTRY Chancellor Fred Gaskin will announce a major financial commitment to establish quality programs that train the segment of biotechnology workers expected to experience the greatest and most immediate demand. The announcement is aimed at strengthening Arizona's bid to attract the International Genomics Consortium (IGC) and support activities of the Arizona Bioscience and Biomedicine Institutes (ABBI).

    MORE: Arizona is one of four cities being considered for the new headquarters of the International Genomics Consortium, a nonprofit group headed by prominent scientists involved in genetic research. If the Consortium chooses Phoenix, the 21st century scientists who come here to work will require biotechnically trained employees to help them reach their goals. Additionally, biotech industries are growing rapidly, and their impact on our economy and community will become increasingly more apparent.
