Chesrown Maricopa Community Colleges and Intel Team Up on High Tech Educational Opportunities for Students Greater Phoenix, AZ - At a time when many of high tech corporations are downsizing and laying off employees, Intel Corporation is working with the Maricopa Community Colleges and other Arizona community colleges in an all-state effort to attract Arizona's 2001 high school graduates to the Semiconductor Manufacturing Technician programs. Intel coordinated with the Maricopa Community Colleges in developing the Semiconductor Manufacturing Technician program (SMT) at Mesa Community College, Chandler-Gilbert Community College, GateWay Community College and Glendale Community College as well as two other Arizona community colleges. The program takes two years and leads to full certification as a semiconductor manufacturing technician and a high paying manufacturing technician job. Intel supports the program through scholarships, internships, funding and curriculum development. Throughout May, Intel has been hosting information sessions for high school graduates and their parents on SMT programs at the various college campuses. The Maricopa County Community College District, the largest community college district in the nation, includes 10 colleges - Chandler-Gilbert Community College, Estrella Mountain Community College, GateWay Community College, Glendale Community College, Mesa Community College, Paradise Valley Community College, Phoenix College, Rio Salado College, Scottsdale Community College and South Mountain College. The District also includes the Maricopa Skill Center, Estrella Mountain Skill Center, several satellite campuses and business/industry, technical and customized training institutes and serves over 264,000 students annually.
