Jose Leyba, Former School Superintendent, Named Executive Assistant to Vice Chancellor of Human Resources for Maricopa Community Colleges

Greater Phoenix - Dr. Jose Leyba has been named the Executive Assistant to the Vice Chancellor of Human Resources for the Maricopa Community Colleges. Dr. Leyba has been the interim executive assistant since January.

Dr. Leyba, a former school superintendent for the Isaac School District, will serve as the liaison for Dr. Phil Randolph, Vice Chancellor of Human Resources. Leyba's major responsibility will be the development and implementation of a local and national recruitment plan which addresses the goal of the Governing Board for the Maricopa Community Colleges to establish a more diverse workforce.

"Dr. Leyba's leadership and experience in public education is a matter of record. As the Executive Assistant to the Vice Chancellor for Human Resources, he plays a critical role in Maricopa's recruitment and diversity activities. In his short time with us, he has established many new recruitment partnerships and relationships with colleges and universities across the United States. These partnerships enhance our ability to recruit and employ outstanding faculty and staff for the Maricopa Colleges" Dr. Randolph said.

Dr. Leyba said, "I am proud to be a part of the Maricopa Community Colleges and play a role in achieving the diversity that will more truly reflect our diverse student populations. I welcome both the opportunities and challenges of working with the variety of internal and external organizations."

Leyba is active board member for the South Phoenix City Soccer as well as a volunteer coach for Tempe Soccer Club. He serves on the Hispanic Citizens Advisory Board for the City of Phoenix Police Department. In 1998, he received the National School Boards Association's Magna Award for Outstanding Programs.

Dr. Leyba's BA, MA and doctorate are from Arizona State University.
