PHOENIX COLLEGE PRESIDENTIAL SEARCH NARROWS TO THREE CANDIDATES - PUBLIC INPUT SOUGHT IN FINAL SELECTION

August 31, 2001 - As the search to find a new President of Phoenix College narrows to three candidates, members of the community are being encouraged to participate in the process.

Citizens are invited to bring their questions for the candidates to a public forum scheduled for September 10, 2001 at Bulpitt Auditorium, on the Phoenix College Campus, beginning promptly at 6:00 p.m. The three finalists will each have 30 minutes to introduce themselves to the audience and answer questions. Feedback forms will also be available so members of the public can provide comments to Chancellor Fred Gaskin.

"Phoenix College is an important part of the Central Phoenix community. Public input is vital in the selection of a new President because this person assumes civic responsibilities when chosen to lead the college," according to Dr. Gaskin.

The public forum caps an intense day of interviews and conversations conducted by college and district officials.

The three finalists named by the Presidential Search Committee are: Robert Carlson, EdD., Executive Director of the University of New Mexico, Gallup Campus; Corina Gardea, PhD., Executive District Director Community/Educational Partnerships, Dallas Community College District; and Miguel Palacios, PhD., President of Desert Vista Campus, Pima Community College, Tucson.

After the public sessions the Chancellor may recommend one of the candidates to the Maricopa Community College Governing Board.
