WHAT: “Indian Country – Realistic Portrayals of Home”
Native American filmmaker Chris Eyre challenges how indigenous people are depicted in mainstream Hollywood films. The thirty-year-old filmmaker from Klamath Falls, Oregon was a Sundance Institute Film Fellow and the U.S. award winner of the Cinema 100/Sundance International Film Award. His film “Smoke Signals,” won the Audience Award and Filmmaker’s Trophy at the 1998 Sundance Film Festival.

WHO: Chris Eyre (pronounced “air”) will share his work and his fresh perspective as part of the Maricopa Community Colleges 2001-2002 Honors Forum Lecture Series. The event is free and open to the public.

WHY: The 2001-2002 Honors Forum Lecture Series is titled “Customs, Traditions and Celebrations: The Human Drive for Community.” The series is sponsored by the Honors Program at the Maricopa Community Colleges and is designed to encourage, foster and contribute to a climate of academic excellence both in the colleges and in the surrounding community.
