  • COUPLE EARNS DEGREES TOGETHER
    THROUGH INTERNET COURSES AT RSC

Bolden's at graduationElizabeth and Theodore "Ted" Bolden share a marriage, children and the same college degree. Both recently graduated from Rio Salado College with Associate of Applied Science degrees in Computer Usage and Technology.

Their desire to return to college began with Ted, a Master Sergeant at Luke Air Force Base. He was contemplating a career change upon retirement, and Elizabeth had wanted to obtain a degree for years. Subsequently the two took many courses together and completed the vast majority of their studies through Rio Salado's Internet courses. Their academic advising was obtained primarily through Rio West Valley, located at Luke AFB.

"You must be very disciplined to take Internet courses," according to Elizabeth, who recently retired from AT&T after a 31-year career. She says the couple has motivated quite a few family members to return to college, including their adult children.

Next they plan to attend Park College and receive dual degrees in Business Management and Human Resources. Their long-term career goals include working in human resources management and possibly opening a small business for Elizabeth.

"Rio is a really super school to attend," says Elizabeth, who is a member of the Alpha Theta Omicron Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa. "It is very beneficial for people who work full-time. I tell others who are interested in a degree to seek it out!"
