INSTALLS NEW
PRESIDENT AND BOARD MEMBERS
Dick
Arndt was installed as President of the Maricopa Community Colleges Foundation
at the group's annual meeting in May. Arndt joined the Foundation Board
in 1993 and was actively involved in the recent, highly successful "Investing
in Arizona" campaign that raised $12.8 million dollars for student
scholarships.
Arndt is a 1962 graduate of
the University of Minnesota where he holds a BS degree in Business. He
also earned an MBA in 1983 from the Keller Graduate School in Chicago.
He is a retired Senior Vice President with the Northern Trust Bank of
Arizona where he served as Arizona Chief Investment Officer. Arndt also
held positions as an Account Executive with Merrill Lynch in Minneapolis,
and worked with Honeywell's Aerospace Division in Minnesota.
A former U.S. Army pilot, Arndt
has donated time and energy to Arizona State University Parent's Association,
Kiwanis and PRO-ACT (Phoenix Residents Organized Against Crime Task Force),
among other organizations. He assumed his new duties with the Maricopa
Community Colleges Foundation from outgoing President Dr. David Sanderson.
Arndt commented, "I am delighted to be part of the Maricopa Community
Colleges, and particularly pleased to assist the Foundation in its efforts
to support needy and deserving students."
Ray Arvizu and Lynn Keeling
have been elected to three-year terms as new Directors of the Maricopa
Community Colleges Foundation.
Ray
Arvizu is founder and CEO of Arvizu Advertising and Promotions, a
full service advertising agency, media and public relations agency with
30 employees. The firm has a long list of well-known clients including
the Arizona Diamondbacks, McDonald's of Arizona, Bashas' Supermarkets,
the Arizona Republic, America West Airlines and Banner Health of
Arizona.
In addition to his work with
the Foundation, Arvizu also is active in many other community service
organizations. He currently serves as a board member for the Arizona Hispanic
Chamber of Commerce, the Grand Canyon Minority Council, the Arizona Hispanic
Center of Excellence and the Tolleson High School Foundation. He is a
past board member of the Valley of the Sun United Way, the Heard Museum,
Boys & Girls Club of Metropolitan Phoenix and the Carl Hayden High
School Community Foundation. He is a past chairman and former board member
of the United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.
Among other awards, Arvizu
was the named Small Business Person of the Year for 2000 by the Greater
Phoenix Chamber of Commerce. He is a 1979 graduate of Grand Canyon University
and holds a BA in Behavioral Science.
Lynn
Keeling is Executive Assistant to the President at Mesa Community
College. She brings a law degree and a strong background in contracts,
service agreements, public policy and regulatory matters, real estate
and environmental issues to her work at Mesa.
Keeling received a BA in Math
Education from Colorado Women's College in 1975 and her Juris Doctorate
in 1992 from California Western School of Law. Before accepting her current
position with Mesa Community College, she was an Environmental Regulatory
Attorney with the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality where she
drafted legislation and program guidelines, negotiated with corporations
on environmental programs. She also worked as an associate with Bryan
Cave LLP where her responsibilities included real estate purchase options,
lobbying activities, policy and management procedures and liability issues.
Keeling served as general counsel for Data Site Consortium, Inc.
She is a faculty member of
the Arizona State Bar Convention, and is editor of the Environmental &
Natural Resource section of the State Bar's newsletter. Other volunteer
activities include service to Chrysalis, Court Appointed Special Advocates,
Sonoran Sustainable Resource Institute, Southwest Riparian Restoration
Foundation, Crisis Nursery and Animal Benefit Club. She is also a member
of the board of a charter school.
