Dean Stover, Liberal Arts Division Chair, GateWay Community College, recently completed training for the Chair Academy. Stover and a team of eight faculty at GateWay Community College received a $4500 learning grant to develop a teacher preparation program at GateWay to attract teacher aides and high school students into teaching. Stover and Don Hall, Humanities/Communication faculty, also received a $7000 learning grant to bring six fine arts events to GateWay Community College.
Judges said this about Jeff's feature "We found this to be the most entertaining piece we judged and were sad when it was over...we wanted more! The reporter did a wonderful job of sprinkling the story with very amusing cuts from the band members and great clips of their music. The writing, pacing and delivery of the story also helped it flow very effectively, keeping in line with the subject matter". Jeff also won 1st Place in the "Best Light Feature" category for his One Foot feature at the recent Arizona Associated Press Broadcasters Associations awards. Anne Patterson, Public Relations Assistant at GateWay Community College participated in the American Diabetes Association's Team Diabetes program. Team Diabetes provides individuals the opportunity to train and compete in marathons while raising money for the ADA. Anne raised nearly $4000 for the ADA and competed in her first marathon June 24, 2001 in Kona, Hawaii. She finished the 26.2 miles in 4 hours and 18 minutes. Tom Goetz, Automotive Technology Program Director, was selected to a three year term as a member of the Toyota Technical Education Network (T-TEN) National Advisor Council and will represent the Western Region. Awards Hansen was also awarded the Arizona Association for Economic Development 2000 - 2001 Professional Interactions Committee Chair Appreciation Award. The Professional Interaction committee provides members opportunities to examine economic development processes and activities through information workshops and company recruitment case studies with a focus on interaction between professionals. This year's event was conducted at the main campus of Arizona State University where economic development professionals from around the state where able to see first hand advanced research that may one-day attract new industries, companies, and capital to the state of Arizona. Lynette Jim received her Master in Public Administration from Syracuse University on June 29, 2001. She has been on a educational leave from Rio Salado College. In addition, Lynette has been selected as the first Faculty Intern at Rio Salado College to participate in the Faculty In Progress Pilot program beginning in August.
Reinebold was also selected earlier this year as a member of the Chandler Chamber of Commerce's Web Development Committee, which reviews and makes recommendations concerning the Chamber's web site. In addition, Reinebold is a member of the Chandler Coalition, a group of marketing and public relations professionals from Chandler-area schools, industry and the city, which started meeting for informational, networking and collaborative projects earlier this year.
Dr. Decabooter has also been named one of the "Fabulous Fifty" of the City of Scottsdale on its 50th Anniversary. Susan Moore, English Faculty, Scottsdale Community College, has been invited by Nancy Gutierrez, the Associate Dean of Personnel at ASU, to present at the Way Up Conference in October of this year. The Way Up Conference is for women in higher education. Dr. Gutierrez is creating a panel of professors representing ASU, NAU, Grand Canyon University and the Maricopa Community Colleges to discuss their roles and experiences as faculty members. Bethany Moncivaiz, Transfer Center Coordinator, CGCC, will be the acting Advisement coordinator for the year. She is replacing Sara Rassas who was selected for the Faculty in Progress program. Mark Felder, Facilities Laboratory Technician in the Air Conditioning and Refrigeration program and Adjunct Faculty, GateWay, received a Masters in Ed. degree from NAU in May.
Chandler-Gilbert Staff Chose Creative Pathways: Yvette Strickling, Student Services Administrative Assistant, is Creative Pathways this fall for her student teaching in the Chandler Elementary school system. Program Advisor Jim Gregory will be doing a Creative Pathway with Phoenix College in the area of curriculum this fall.
Shannon Dougherty, Administrative Assistant, Business and Industry, CGCC, recently had a community interest article published in the Tribune's Chandler Connection, the Tempe Voice and the Gilbert Guardian. CGCC students Kayla Whitfield and Deanna Stones were recently awarded scholarships from the Coca-Cola Foundation in the amount of $1000. The scholarship rewards hours and participation in community service activities. This is Stones' second time receiving this scholarship. Wilbert Nelson, Sociology, Phoenix College, was recently recognized with a certification of appreciation for his volunteer efforts with the Maricopa County Attorney's Office Victim Compensation Board. The board offers assistance to victims of criminal acts in Maricopa County. The assistance covers such areas as counseling, loss wages, medical expenses and even burials. Nelson was also appointed to the Arizona Chapter of the United Negro College Fund. The primary purpose of the chapter is to raise funds and assist students who are attending Historical Black Colleges and Universities. |
