GATEWAY
COMMUNITY COLLEGE
STUDENT SUPPORT SERVICES PROGRAM
GateWay Community College
is the recipient of a federally funded Student Support Services grant
award, one of only three new programs to be funded in Arizona. This is
the second TRIO grant the college has been awarded from the U.S. Department
of Education. The first award was for the Upward Bound program funded
in 1999.
Student
Support Services programs serve students who are any combination of: first
generation college, low-income or disabled. The goal of the Student Support
Services Program is to increase the college retention and graduation rates
of its participants and facilitate the process of transition from one
level of higher education to the next. GateWay Community College will
receive $190,000 each year for 4 years to serve 160 students per year.
Services provided to program
participants will include academic advisement, financial aid counseling,
tutoring, university transfer assistance, personal enrichment workshops,
educational fieldtrips, college success workshops and career exploration
and counseling.
These services provide opportunities
for academic development, assist students with ASIC college requirements
and serve to motivate students towards the successful completion of their
post secondary education.
The Center for Student Support
Services will be located in the 503 Suite of offices near the Career &
Education Planning Center. For additional information please call Debbie
Kushibab, Associate Dean Student Services, 602-392-5170.
