Insurance Coverage for Student Dependents As students graduate from college, it's time to start thinking about their insurance needs for the future. Since May and June are the most active months for student dependent graduation, now is a good time to evaluate their needs. Student dependents are defined as your unmarried children, stepchildren and adopted children under age 19. Coverage can continue until age 24 for your unmarried children who are enrolled in an accredited school on a full-time basis. The insurance companies will require proof of the continuing eligibility of children 19 or over. This proof must be provided within 30 days of the date coverage is due to end. If you wish to continue coverage for a student dependent, who is 19 years of age or older, please send a copy of the student's schedule from the school to Blue Cross Blue Shield and your benefit analyst. Remember to include your name and Social Security number on the class schedule so we know the covered employee.
