Herminia
Lopez is a woman of many hats. However, as a recent graduate of
ASU West with a Bachelor's Degree in Social Work, Lopez didn't get
to wear her mortar board on graduation night. Instead, the Glendale
Community College Academic Advisor chose to attend her son's graduation
at Glendale.
Herminia accomplished
her academic goal while working full-time, attending college full-time,
working on two internships, and raising a family. She completed
an internship with Maricopa's Creative Pathways program at Phoenix
College, and worked as an Administrative Assistant at Arizona Women's
Education and Employment (AWEE) for the ASU West internship.
Herminia's son graduated
from GCC with an AAS degree in Automotive Technology the same night
as she graduated from ASU West. Although Herminia chose to attend
her son's graduation ceremony, she did attend the Hispanic Convocation
at ASU Main. Herminia is a first generation college graduate.
Her plans are to attend
NAU and earn her Master's degree in Educational Leadership and eventually
work in an educational management position.
797 students graduated
from Glendale Community College this spring.
