Maricopa Community Colleges Celebrating 40 Years

  1. The Arizona Association of Chicanos in Higher Education (AACHE) was founded in 1982 and serves as an advocate and support organization for Latinos to actively promote the employment, development and advancement of Chicano, Hispano and Latino faculty and staff, while providing a comprehensive academic and support system to ensure equal opportunity for Chicano, Hispano and Latino students.
  2. The Maricopa Council on Black American Affairs (MCBAA) works to improve educational opportunities for Afridan Americans, contribute to the enhancement of African American and other cultures, and focus on the development of our total human resources. MCBAA is proud to be part of the Maricopa Community Colleges and its strategy for improving services to diverse populations.
  3. The Asian Pacific Islander Association (APIA) is a sanctioned group of Asian American employees within the Maricopa Community Colleges serving as a support system for each other and meeting to discuss employment, cultural awareness and other issues unique to Asian Americans. APIA works to support Asian American students, help colleges beter understand the Asian American community and locate qualified Asians for appropriate employment opportunities.
  4. The United Tribal Employees Committee (UTEC) provides support and information on employment, cultural awareness and other diversity issues unique to Native Americans. UTEC addresses challenges facing employees and explores opportunities to recruit Native American employees and students. UTEC members serve as role models, mentors and advisors to Native American students and act as liaison between the colleges and Native American communities. UTEC takes special pride in conducting an annual ceremony honoring Native American graduates.
  5. The Gay and Lesbian Human Rights Association (GLHRA) strives to ensure that each member of our community is valued and respected, regardless of sexual orientation. Members of GLHRA work to end discrimination, secure equal rights and protect the health and safety of all employees and students. The District Governing Board voted to approve Domestic Partner Benefits on January 27, 1998.
  6. The Women's Leadership Group (WLG) provides for the cont6inuous development of a strong and supportive work environment for women employees. This employee group is open to all employees. WLG holds various events and seminars to expand opportunities for networking and support.
