A WARM WELCOME FOR DR. FRED GASKIN

Cardenas
Vice Chancellor Dr. Raúl Cárdenas (left) and Chancellor Dr. Fred Gaskin visit with Maricopa County School Superintendent Sandra Dowling at Aug. 23 reception for the new Chancellor. More than 300 people attended from throughout the Valley.
More than 300 college and community leaders attended the welcoming reception for Dr. Fred Gaskin at Phoenix College on Aug. 23. Business leaders, elected officials, faculty, staff and other community leaders spoke with Dr. Gaskin and other college leaders about the exciting new Osborn site for Phoenix College. Governing Board Member Linda B. Rosenthal spoke of the history of the Osborn site as the former Temple Beth Israel. Ms. Rosenthal and her family are members of Temple Beth Israel and have fond memories of their involvement at the former Osborn site. Dr. Gaskin spoke of the "incredible" Maricopa Community Colleges and of his goals to assist in developing programs to address the K-12 teacher shortage and to locate the best and most qualified college faculty to replace the large number of retiring faculty in the future. Dr. Gaskin also addressed the need to be more proactive in the diverse cultural communities of Maricopa County and for the Maricopa Community Colleges to continue in their role as educational and technological leaders.

Dr. Gaskin expressed his sincere thanks to the Governing Board for their support and direction and to the faculty and staff of the colleges for their warm and congenial welcome.
