Deric became the Sr. Manager of EEO & Affirmative Action for Maricopa County Community College District (MCCCD) on June 25, 2012. During Deric’s tenure with MCCCD, he has held previous positions as the HR Records Manager, Coordinator Employee Relations, and the Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) Specialist/Investigator. From March 2007 through July 2008, Deric was assigned by the Vice Chancellor for Human Resources to manage operations in the MCCCD EEO Office during a search to fill the EEO Director position.
Prior to working for MCCCD, Deric worked for Maricopa County Adult Probation Department from 1995-2003. His responsibilities included supervising adults placed on probation as well as juveniles charged in Adult Court, assessing and reassessing probationers’ risks and needs, and writing presentence investigation reports on defendants convicted of felony offenses. Deric wrote more than 1,200 presentence investigation reports for Maricopa County Superior Court Judges on white collar offenses, violent offenses, property offenses, sex offenses, drug offenses, and capital murder cases. In 2003, Deric left the Adult Probation Department to study law at Gonzaga University School of Law in Spokane, Washington where he studied for a year and a half.
Deric earned a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from the University of South Florida and a master’s degree in educational leadership from Northern Arizona University. He is a doctoral candidate (All But Dissertation) and plans to complete his degree in June 2013.
Deric is a former college student athlete (soccer) and professional soccer player, and he enjoys working with young people and social service agencies.
