Job Summary
Provides group and/or one-on-one instruction to adults in basic skills, GED preparation, ESOL and/or literacy areas specified in the Application Guidelines for Adult Education and Literacy Programs provided by the Arizona Department of Education.
Scope
This position works in an Adult Basic Education class. Work contacts include administrators, staff and students. Equipment used includes standard office equipment.
Supervision Received
This position reports to an Instructional Coordinator or program coordinator; receives general direction regarding routine and standard matters and specific instructions regarding sensitive matters.
Supervision Exercised
Direct the work of students and/or classroom aides and volunteers.
Representative Duties
Instructs students in groups or one-on-one in basic skills, GED preparation, and/or ESOL using print materials and/or computers; maintains student records and classroom teaching materials; prepares lessons; performs related duties as assigned.
Knowledge & Abilities
Knowledge of: basic skills, GED and/or ESOL content; materials and teaching methodologies for adult students; assessment techniques for adult students. Ability to: instruct students individually and in groups; develop lesson plans for groups and individuals; evaluate assessment results and develop individual learning plans for students; maintain records and classroom materials; communicate effectively orally and in writing; establish cooperative working relationships with persons contacted in the course of performing assigned duties.
Training & Experience
Any combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required Knowledge and Abilities. An example of this would be college coursework in Education or related field and/or experience in basic education programs or workplace training.
Special Conditions of Employment
Incumbent must posses or be eligible to receive an Arizona Adult Basic Education teaching certificate.
Working Conditions
Position may require evening and/or weekend hours. There will be some lifting and carrying of instructional materials and equipment.
