Bernie Ronan
480-731-8092 | eMailDr. Bernie Ronan is the Associate Vice Chancellor for Public Affairs of the Maricopa Community Colleges. He oversees the work of the Division departments, which include the Center for Civic Participation, the Government Relations Office, and Marketing & Communications.
Dr. Ronan has been an administrator in the Maricopa Community Colleges for more than twenty years, including serving as the Acting President of Mesa Community College in 2007-2008. Prior to his service in the Maricopa Community Colleges, Dr. Ronan was Deputy Director of the Arizona Department of Commerce, and Deputy Associate Superintendent of the Arizona Department of Education.
Over his career as a public administrator, Dr. Ronan has developed numerous community partnerships and has done research and analysis on public policy issues, including a recent study for the Kettering Foundation, "The Civic Spectrum, How Students Become Engaged Citizens."
An Arizona native, Dr. Ronan has his doctorate in public administration from Arizona State University.
Charlie Freer
480-731-8091 | eMailCharlie Freer is the Coordinator for the Public Affairs Division of the Maricopa Community Colleges. Charlie has worked for the District for twelve years. Prior to the inception of the Public Affairs Division, Charlie was the coordinator for the Center for Civic Participation, which is now a department within the Division. Charlie is responsible for securing students and staff to attend the bi-annual Arizona Town Hall events, and coordinating Division activities. He has a Bachelor of Social Work degree from Arizona State University.
