HISTORICAL ACCOMPLISHMENTS
The Equality Maricopa charter group immediately sought the support of the other constituent employee groups within the Maricopa Community Colleges in an effort to present the Governing Board with the opportunity to include "sexual orientation" in its non-discrimination policy. This first effort of the association was successful.
Equality Maricopa's second major activity of the group was working for the passage of the 1994 Community College Bond Issue through direct contact with the 7,000-10,000 registered voters in Maricopa County associated with GLBT and other civic organizations concerned with the civil rights of minorities.
The third success was the addition of domestic partner benefits to the employee benefits package. This was accomplished by Equality Maricopa's work with the Strategic Planning Committees on diversity.
An important accomplishment was a library list generated to encourage campus libraries to upgrade their GLBT reources. This list is currently under revision.
Equality Maricopa has played a supportive role in GLBT student campus clubs. |
