Lori B. Girshick, PhD
Lori has a PhD in sociology and am residential faculty at Chandler-Gilbert Community College. she has an extensive background working on LGBTQ issues and am a committed activist on LGBTQ issues. She has worked in LGBT domestic and sexual violence as both a service provider and as a researcher and writer. She has written a book called "Woman-to-Woman Sexual Violence: Does She Call it Rape?" and numerous articles on these issues. I have been doing national and international trainings on LGBTQ issues for over 10 years, primarily to service providers. Lori's book "Transgender Voices: Beyond Women and Men" is based on interviews with 150 trans-identified people. When Lori was at ASU she was on the board of Ubiquity, the faculty/staff LGBTQ organization there. She also was a facilitator of the SafeZONE program (similar to our Safe Space). Lori is presently a Safe Space facilitator and also the faculty advisor for GGCC's student LGBTQA campus group, One Voice. She is committed to contributing to LGBTQ rights and visibility.
Alberto Olivas
As the Director of the Center for Civic Participation, Alberto oversees efforts to partner college faculty, district and employee organizations with business, community and government agencies to increase public participation in policy development processes, including voting and citizen advocacy.
Among these efforts, Alberto has represented Maricopa Community Colleges in numerous statewide policy deliberation projects, including a contract to gain public input on state policies dealing with the aging of the population, public input on the state's tourism industry workforce development needs, and other timely community and policy issues.
Alberto also serves as the affiliate representative to the Kettering Foundation’s National Issues Forum (NIF) network on behalf of the Maricopa Community Colleges, and collaborates with other NIF affiliates on research and projects related to deliberative democracy and public participation.
Alberto served previously as Director of the Governor’s Office of Equal Opportunity; was appointed by Governor Hull to the Arizona Commission of Indian Affairs; and was the state’s first Voter Outreach Director in the Office of the Arizona Secretary of State. He currently serves on the board of directors for Arizona Town Hall, Valley Leadership, Kids Voting Arizona, and the Mesa Association of Hispanic Citizens.
Alberto has a Bachelor’s degree in Anthropology, a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership, and is currently pursuing a doctoral degree in Human and Organizational Systems from Fielding Graduate University.
Dale Heuser, M. S., M. Ed.
Dale is residential faculty at PVCC in the Health and Exercise Science Department and the program coordinator for the Strength and Conditioning Personal Trainer Certificate and Degree programs. He also the Faculty Advisor the the PVCC P.R.I.D.E club (People Respecting Individuality, Diversity, and Equality).
