SAFE SPACE I

Session: Safe Space Part I: General Education**

This session will provide education and increased awareness about GLBT issues. Safe Space training will discuss issues related to: homophobia, heterosexism, heterosexual privilege, transgender issues, general definitions, history and culture related to the GLBT community. Total course hours: 3

SAFE SPACE II

Session: Safe Space Part II: The Role of An Ally**

Course Prerequisite: Safe Space I

This session provides information on creating a physically and emotionally safe atmosphere for GLBT employees and students, and recommendations about how to handle homophobic violence and harassment. Discussion will include issues related to: identity, bias, risks, coming out, vision for an inclusive environment, strategies and limits of being an ally and resources for allies. Total course hours: 3

**Each workshop has been approved for 3.25 hours Faculty Professional Growth non-academic advancement.

Completion of the entire program entitles participants to a Safe Space plaque that signifies your workspace is a Safe Space.
