CITY OF EL MIRAGE
The City of El Mirage is a relatively compact city
in northwestern Maricopa County with a
population approaching 7,700. The Maricopa Community Colleges currently
serve the City
of El Mirage through the Glendale Community College campus at 6000 West
Olive Avenue,
Rio Salado at Luke Air Force Base and through a teaching site located
at Dysart High School
within city boundaries. Glendale residents also enjoy the educational
and community services
provided through other colleges within the ten-college Maricopa County
Community College
District.

Many students access their educational services through
the Internet and others attend Dysart
High School or other sites located just outside El Mirage in Glendale,
Surprise or at Luke
Air Force Base which provide evening and weekend coursework and training,
with students
often being working adults. In addition,many of the Maricopa Community
Colleges maintain
partnerships with corporations,industries and non-profits organizations
located in El Mirage.
Glendale Community College opened its doors in 1965
and was recently named one of
Americas Most Wired Colleges.The Phoenix Business
Journal also recently listed Glendale Community College as the best
place in the Valley to receive computer training. In 2001,
Glendale Community College served approximately 46,000 students in 624,904
square feet
of facility on the West Olive Campus and 10,200 square feet of facility
at 59th Avenue and
Happy Valley Road. The annual budget of Glendale Community College is
approximately
$45,000,000 with most of those funds being spent on salaries or on the
purchase of goods
and materials from state and local merchants.
The Maricopa Community Colleges served more than 277,000
students in 2000-2001 and
maintained corporate partnerships with more than 1,000 businesses in
the Valley. Of all high
school graduates in Maricopa County, 45%attend one of the community
colleges within one
year of graduation.
