GOVERNING BOARD INFORMATION

The Governing Board of the Maricopa County Community College District is currently made up of five persons, elected from geographical districts making up all of this Arizona County. The Board will expand to include two at-large+ positions in 2014. Board members are elected in staggered years to four-year terms.

*The District 5 seat will be up for election fall 2014 and the elected candidate will serve through December 31, 2016.
**At-Large members would serve different terms initially—the candidate receiving the largest number of votes will serve four years, the candidate receiving the next largest number of votes will serve two years. Subsequently, At-Large members will serve four-year terms. (As of 10/16/13)
+The state Superior Court recently ruled that the legislation creating the new at-large seats is unconstitutional. The state Supreme Court is will soon be hearing an appeal to that decision. If the Supreme Court upholds the Superior Court ruling, the at-large seats will not be included in the November 4, 2014 election. (Revised 08/20/14)

Upcoming Elections

The next election will be held on November 4, 2014. Districts 3, 4, and 5 will be up for election along with two At-Large+ member positions. Meetings

Board members routinely meet on the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month to direct the activities of the District under powers given them pursuant to Arizona Revised Statutes (ARS) §15-1444. Public notices of board meetings are posted outside the Governing Board Room located on the second floor of the District Support Services Center. They are also posted on the Governing Board website under menu option Legal Notices.
