Cobra Benefit Summary - a brief description on cobra regulations. On April 7, 1986 a federal law was enacted requiring that most employers sponsoring group health plans offer employees and their families the opportunity for a temporary extension of health and/or dental coverage at group rates in certain instances where coverage under the plan would otherwise end. When your coverage terminates, you will automatically receive A COBRA notice from the Benefit Office. If you elect COBRA continuation coverage, you will be responsible for paying the full premium cost plus an administrative fee. If you do not want COBRA continuation coverage, or if your COBRA coverage ends, you may apply to the insurance company for conversion to an individual insurance policy.
