The sick leave policy is intended to protect employees from loss of income
during periods of illness. Unless stated in the employee policy manual, sick
leave time may not be used for any other purpose.
Unused accumulated sick leave hours will be canceled upon termination of
employment, except in the case of retirement from the Arizona State Retirement
System.
Rate of Accruals
Twelve (12) month regular full-time non-faculty employees accrue sick leave at the rate of
4.00 hours each pay period. Twelve (12) month full-time regular non-faculty employees earn
thirteen (13) days or one hundred and four (104) hours of sick leave per year.
Regular full time non-faculty employees who work less than a twelve (12) month
schedule will accumulate sick leave hours on a prorated basis.
Nine (9) month Residential Faculty paid on a nine (9) month pay cycle accrue sick leave at the rate of 0.051283 for
each hour paid. Regular full time faculty employees on a nine and one half
(9½) month schedule will accumulate sick leave hours on a prorated basis.
Nine (9) month Residential Faculty paid on a twelve
(12) month pay cycle accrue sick leave hours at a rate of .068652 for each
hour paid for Instructional Faculty and .068639 for each hour paid for Service
Faculty. This rate may fluctuate based on the number of days in the fiscal
year.
Employee on a ten (10) or ten and one half (10½) month schedule will
accumulate sick leave hours on a prorated basis.
Family/Sick Leave Hours
Family leave hours are intended to protect employees from loss of income during
periods of illness for family members. Time used will be subtracted from the
employee’s sick leave hours. Eligible family members are an employee’s spouse/partner,
father, mother, grandfather, grandmother, child, foster child, brother, sister,
grandchild, stepchild, stepfather, stepmother; or a spouse’s father, mother,
grandfather, grandmother.
