TITLE: ATHLETIC SPECIALIST

FLSA: PROFESSIONAL                                                                                 $42,193.00

 

Job Summary


Serves as head coach and/or athletic director for 50% of contract.  Administers, coordinates and recruits for the athletic program.  Remainder of contract is made up of various duties as assigned by College President.

 

Scope


Assignment is in the athletic program and other areas as designated by the College President.  Work contacts include students, college personnel and the public.  Equipment used includes standard athletic and office equipment.

 

Supervision Received


This position reports to the appropriate administrator; receives general direction regarding routine and standard matters and specific instructions regarding non‑routine and highly sensitive matters. 

 

Supervision Exercised


This position supervises students and assistant coaches.

 

Representative Duties


Organizes and administers the athletic program; monitors the academic progress of all athletics; arranges for study sessions and/or tutors for athletes in need; organizes and supervises recruitment; maintains compliance with Maricopa Community College District, Arizona Community College Athletic Conference Region I and National Junior College Athletic Association policies and procedures; supervises and coaches students; performs related duties as assigned. 

 

Knowledge and Abilities

 

Knowledge of: coaching; recruiting; athletic policies and procedures.

 

Ability to: provide academic and personal advice to student athletes; organize and administer athletic program; supervise students and demonstrate athletics; communicate effectively orally and in writing and establish cooperative working relationships with persons contacted in the course of performing assigned duties.

 

Training and Experience


Any combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge and abilities.  An example of this would be a college degree with successful athletic coaching experience at a high school or collegiate level.

Working Conditions


Some positions may require a Class D Driver’s License.
