Job Summary
Performs a variety of professional accounting work.
Scope
This position works in the area of business services. Work contacts include administrators and
accounting system users district-wide, external funding and governmental
agencies, employee benefits providers and auditors. Equipment used includes standard office
equipment.
Supervision Received
This position reports to the Manager Accounting or an
assigned administrator; receives general direction regarding routine and
standard matters; specific instructions regarding non‑routine matters.
Supervision Exercised
Provides consultative direction to accounting system users throughout
the District.
Representative Duties
Responds to problems and inquiries from accounting system
users requiring detailed knowledge of policies, procedures, systems and
regulations of assigned area; analyzes, edits and reconciles a variety of reports,
records and documents for reasonableness, consistency, conformity with sound
accounting and budget control principles and practices; researches and
interprets fiscal and accounting regulations, laws and guidelines; disseminates
guidelines on accounting policies, practices and systems to users; provides
fiscal control for assigned grant funds; prepares a variety of financial
reports including financial disclosure statements, annual budget report to
Governing Board, reports to funding sources, tax reports and ad hoc system‑generated
reports; calculates and generates payments for federal and state payroll taxes
and employee benefits; prepares journal entries; assigns account numbers and
performs system maintenance transactions; may develop accounting procedures and
propose changes to computerized accounting system; may develop indirect cost
rate proposals for use in externally funded programs; may serve as liaison with
external auditors, including collecting, reviewing, organizing and preparing
required documentation; may make post‑closing adjustments to financial
statements; conducts special projects; performs related duties as assigned.
Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge
of: accounting principles, practices and procedures including governmental
accounting and computerized accounting systems; standard office practices,
procedures and equipment.
Ability
to: apply and communicate updated knowledge of relevant policies, procedures
and regulations; learn to use computerized accounting systems; work independently
and according to established schedules; perform standard accounting
transactions; maintain accurate and orderly accounting records; communicate
effectively orally and in writing; establish cooperative working relationships
with persons contacted in the course of performing assigned duties.
Training and Experience
Any combination of education, training and experience that
provides the required knowledge and abilities.
An example of this would be a college degree in accounting and/or
professional accounting experience with exposure to governmental accounting and
computerized accounting systems.

require prolonged monitor viewing. Some positions may require a Class D Driver’s
License.
