Job Summary
Supervises and assists students in instruction of procedures
and techniques in a lab setting.
Scope
This position works in the area of nursing. Work contacts include administrators,
faculty, staff and students. Equipment
used includes standard office equipment and a variety of lab and hospital
equipment.
Supervision Received
This position reports to a department chair; receives
general direction regarding routine and standard matters; specific instructions
regarding non‑routine matters.
Supervision Exercised
Depending on location/department, may direct work of
students and temporaries.
Representative Duties
Coordinates and facilitates all facets of the nursing lab
including recordkeeping, space utilization, scheduling and health and safety
precautions; demonstrates nursing skills and lab procedures; observes and
supervises return demonstrations; assesses educational needs of students and
provides independent lab instruction; sets up and monitors testing procedures;
prepares printed materials and selects visual aids for learning assignments;
tests and grades students; selects, orders and maintains lab equipment and supplies;
monitors budget verification and maintenance of health documents required by
the college and heath care facilities; provides training to faculty, staff and
students in the use of new equipment and software; performs related duties as
assigned.
Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of: nursing skills; lab equipment; teaching and
instruction methods and practices; record keeping procedures.
Ability
to: supervise and evaluate students; instruct and demonstrate techniques;
communicate effectively orally and in writing; establish cooperative working
relationships with persons contacted in the course of performing assigned
duties.
Training and Experience
Any combination of education, training and experience that
provides the required knowledge and abilities.
An example of this would be a current and valid RN Nursing License
certified in State of Arizona with medical/surgical nursing experience.
Special Conditions of Employment
Possession of a current and valid RN Nursing License
certified in the State of Arizona. Basic Life Support Certification. Completed
Hepatitis B immunization series. Annual update of blood-borne pathogens.
Working Conditions
This class may require incumbents to stand and walk for
extended periods of time; may be required to lift objects up to 40 pounds. Some positions may require a Class D Driver’s License.
