TITLE: COORDINATOR OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH AND SAFETY PROGRAM

Job Summary


Plans, organizes, and manages the overall administrative and operational activities of an Occupational Health and Safety Program (OH&S). Directs, implements, and coordinates the enforcement of district policies and regulations, and federal, state, and local laws as they pertain to OSHA compliance to achieve and ensure a safe and healthful environment for students, faculty, staff, and the community.


Scope


This position works in the area of administration or other assigned area; work contacts include administrators, faculty, staff, community, vendors, contractors, and local, state, and federal officials. Equipment used includes standard office equipment, desktop computers, and various software applications to support training and documentation.


Supervision Received


This position reports to assigned administrator; receives general direction regarding routine matters and specific instructions regarding non-routine matters.


Supervision Exercised


May supervise students, temporaries, and staff.


Representative Duties


Identifies, plans, develops, and implements OH&S programs and procedures at assigned location; prepares, implements and markets OH&S programs; promotes, develops, assesses and evaluates OH&S programs and training plans; performs needs analysis and identifies, facilitates, and coordinates safety training; prepares materials and maintains class rosters and training records; maintains knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations as defined by OSHA and interpreted by district risk management; consults with district legal department and outside sources for interpretation and application of relevant laws; identifies and addresses issues related to compliance with federal, state and local laws and regulations including but not limited to OSHA, ARS, Uniform Fire Code, Uniform Building Code, NIOSH, EPA, and ADOT verbally and in writing; creates, updates, revises and amends OSHA required written plans; maintains records and recordkeeping system; plans OH&S programs and safety events to enhance awareness; administers OSHA programs pertaining to Hazard Communication, Blood borne Pathogens, Emergency Procedures, etc., as applies to campus/site; may coordinate and monitor hazardous and non-hazardous waste disposal; develops and monitors budget; supervises assigned staff; performs related duties as assigned.


Knowledge and Abilities


Knowledge of: OSHA/ADOSH standards, regulations, principles, practices, techniques and procedures; Uniform Fire Code; Uniform Building Code; EPA; ADOT; Arizona Revised Statutes; federal, state, and local laws; district regulations, policies, procedures; pertinent rulings applicable to assigned area; management and supervisory techniques; decision making and supervisory skills.


Ability to: learn, interpret and communicate laws, regulations, and policies; supervise and train others; work independently; promote, develop, and implement programs and procedures related to assigned area; maintain accurate records; communicate effectively orally and in writing, establish cooperative working relationships in the course of performing assigned duties.


Training and Experience


Any combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge and abilities.  An example of this would be training in OSHA Standards or safety related field; and/or experience related to occupational health and safety or demonstrated experience in safety programs; experience and demonstration of management and/or supervisory experience. Must have OSHA 30 hour card.


Special Conditions of Employment


Position may require some evening, split shift assignments and travel. Some positions may require a Class D Driver’s License.
