Job Summary
Design and coordinate community relations activities and
special events for the President and college such as: convocation, graduation,
homecoming, employee brunches, statewide and national conferences, community
meetings and student recognition events.
Scope
This position works in the area of institutional
advancement. Work contacts include administrators, faculty, staff, students,
community, business organizations and international guests. Equipment used
includes standard office equipment, computer, poster making machine,
audiovisual equipment and Sky Lift. Moderate physical exertion to be expected.
Supervision Received
This position reports to an assigned administrator; receives
general direction regarding routine and standard matters and specific
instructions regarding non-routine and sensitive matters.
Supervision Exercised
Provides work direction to assigned staff, students and
volunteers.
Representative Duties
Designs and coordinates community relations and special
events for the college; develops relationships with external partners such as
think tanks, United Way and corporate partners such as Intel and Motorola to
promote community and corporate support for college programs; designs and
prepares reports and recommendations for current and prospective events and
official functions that enhance the mission of the college; develops content
and writes internal/external communication for implementation of events such as
District Tours for national and international guests, think tanks, conferences,
convocation, homecoming; etc.; advises college personnel in planning, marketing
and promotion of special events; researches market and develops sources of
supply for promotional material; negotiates price and assesses savings in terms
of cost, product suitability and need for promotional materials; develops and
maintains college's special events budget; advises and mentors student interns;
develops and maintains college's master calendar; performs related duties as
assigned.
Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of: marketing and event planning practices and
techniques; public relations philosophy, community relations, and activities of
community colleges.
Ability to: work independently; develop, coordinate, and
evaluate complex projects and activities; coordinate all aspects of
communication for the projects or events; establish appropriate reporting
systems; communicate effectively orally and in writing; establish cooperative
working relationships in the course of performing assigned duties.
Training and Experience
Any combination of education, training, and experience that
provides the required knowledge and abilities.
An example of this would be a college degree in communications or
related field and/or experience in the coordination, implementation, and
monitoring of complex projects, community relations activities, and design of
reports preferably in a college setting.
Special Conditions of Employment
This position requires varying work hours to attend special
college events. Some positions may require a Class D Driver’s License.
