Job Summary
Coordinates operations for assigned Student
Life and Leadership office responsibilities and works with the direction of a
comprehensive student leadership and development program, student activities,
service learning/volunteerism, and/or special events for the college.
Scope
This position works in a Student Life and Leadership
office. Work contacts include administrators, faculty, staff, students, and
the public. Equipment used includes standard office and audiovisual
equipment, as well as MCCCD vehicles.
Supervision Received
This position reports to a Director of Student Life and
Leadership; receives general direction regarding routine matters and specific
instructions regarding non‑routine matters.
Supervision Exercised
This position will supervise Student Life and Leadership
staff, students, community and college volunteers, and/or temporary staff.
Representative Duties
Coordinates with the overall planning, design, and direction
of student leadership/development training programs, as well as assigned
college special events; creates and
implements programs for students on service learning and/or volunteerism,
student governance and/or student activities; coordinates student leadership
retreats, conferences, workshops and/or field trips; recommends the design of a
variety of applicable student services and programs to include but not limited
to legal assistance, transportation, insurance, referrals, cooperative training,
cultural initiatives for specific student populations and health/welfare
information; advises students on fiscal responsibility and student policy;
advises student clubs/organizations/associations; trains and directs the work
of Student Life and Leadership staff as assigned; resolves inquiries and
problems; evaluates and recommends office procedures and systems; monitors
budget; gathers and analyzes applicable statistical data, performs applicable
assessment and strategic planning; acts on behalf of Director as requested; and,
performs related duties as assigned.
Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of: student leadership/development theory and
practices; student governance; service learning/volunteerism programs; special
funding guidelines and regulations applicable to program; technology applicable
to program; and, federal, state and local policies and procedures.
Ability
to: plan, organize and manage multiple activities; develop and monitor budget(s);
supervise the work of others; coordinate diverse student programs; plan,
develop and implement new programs and services; communicate effectively orally
and in writing; work independently; and, establish cooperative working
relationships with persons contacted in the course of performing assigned
duties.
Training and Experience
Any combination of education,
training and experience that provides the required knowledge and abilities. An example of this would be a
college degree in social and behavioral science or related field and/or
administrative experience in the management of student affairs functions.
Special Conditions of Employment
This position may require working extended hours and
flexible hours such as evenings and weekends for special events programming, as
well as overnight chaperoning of students. Sites may include multiple campuses. Some positions may require lifting up to 50 lbs. Local travel may be
required; national travel may be available.
