Job Summary
Coordinates a Veterans Services Program to assist student
veteran recipients. Interprets and implements policies received from the
Veterans Administration, the Department of Health, Education and Welfare.
Scope
This position works in the area of Veterans Services. Work
contacts include administrators, staff, the public, Federal and State Officers.
Equipment used includes standard office equipment.
Supervision Received
This position reports to an assigned Dean; receives general
direction regarding routine and standard matters; specific instructions
regarding non-routine matters.
Supervision Exercised
Supervises Veterans Records Technician, Admissions and
Records Clerk, students and temporaries.
Representative Duties
Provides needs assessment, program goals and guidelines for
the program; provides orientation, recruitment and retention services; compiles
statistical data; supervises, trains, and evaluates the staff to meet the goals
and objectives of the program; develops and maintains a comprehensive reporting
system which provides statistical and financial data to college administration
and outside agencies; staffs advisory committee to provide services to
veterans; establishes liaisons between local, civic and veterans groups; plans
new aspects of programs affected by legislation; manages budget; advises
veterans in career and financial management; coordinates student placement
services; performs related duties as assigned.
Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of: career placement, training, retention
programs; federal rules and regulations from the Veterans Administration;
special needs of veterans; financial aid benefits.
Ability to: interpret Veterans Administration regulations;
act as liaison between the college veteran and the Veterans Administration;
supervise and train staff; develop and maintain program records; manage budget;
communicate effectively orally and in writing; establish cooperative working
relationships in the course of performing assigned duties.
Training and Experience
Any combination of education, training, and experience that
provides the required knowledge and abilities.
An example of this would be college level coursework and/or experience
in counseling or veterans administration programs.
Special Conditions of Employment
Position requires evening hours. Some positions may require a Class D Driver’s License.
