Job Summary
Evaluates, develops and writes college curriculum. Serves as a resource person to faculty,
staff and representatives from business, industry and other outside agencies.
Scope
This position works in the area of instruction. Work contacts include faculty,
administrators, staff, other educational institutions, business, industry,
agency personnel and independent curriculum designers. Equipment used includes standard office
equipment.
Supervision Received
This position reports to the Coordinator College Curriculum;
receives general direction regarding routine and standard matters; specific
instructions on non-routine and sensitive matters.
Supervision Exercised
Depending on the location/department, may direct the work of
the Curriculum Technician.
Representative Duties
Analyzes business and industry training for possible
conversion to college credit courses; consults with faculty, staff, business
and industry representatives on design and development of curriculum; analyzes
data to determine effectiveness of curriculum and makes recommendations for
program modification; determines essential content components; evaluates proposed
district curriculum to determine quality and impact on college curriculum;
conducts reviews of curriculum; serves as college representative on various
business and industry advisory committees; develops outlines with sufficient
detail to guide learning environments; meets with various business and industry
leaders regarding proposed curriculum; writes curriculum based on business and
industry training; performs related duties as assigned.
Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of: current techniques and procedures used in the
design and development of curriculum; instruction and program evaluation;
curriculum offerings of community colleges and universities.
Ability to: write behavioral objectives and course
descriptions; coordinate activities with multiple parties; research, develop,
present and promote projects and agreements; work independently; analyze
material to determine essential content component; communicate effectively
orally and in writing; establish cooperative working relationships with persons
contacted in the course of performing assigned duties.
Training and Experience
Any combination of education, training and experience that
provides the required knowledge and abilities.
An example of this would be a college degree in education, English or
related field and/or demonstrated experience in the writing and coordination of
college-level curriculum development and administration.
Special Conditions of Employment
Some positions may require a Class D Driver’s License.
