Job Summary
Supervises television production services, and manages the Maricopa Colleges Television (MCTV) mobile production unit to create video programming using mobile and on-site studio television production equipment.
Scope
This position supervises production services in the area of MCTV, while providing district-wide video production services. Work contacts include administrators, faculty, staff, students, vendors, and public media, business and industry representatives. Equipment used includes cable television broadcast equipment, including advanced studio and mobile production facilities, telecommunications, and standard office equipment.
Supervision Received
This position reports to the MCTV Production Coordinator; receives general direction regarding routine matters and specific instructions regarding non-routine matters.
Supervision Exercised
Supervises MCTV production staff, including production crews
in both mobile and studio settings; supervises activities of assigned non-MCTV
staff on a per project basis. Supervision may include full-time, part-time,
temporary, student, and volunteer staff.
Representative Duties
Responsible for overall production and supervises production
crew while producing and delivering on-site television production services;
programs and maintains mobile and on-site television production studio
equipment; oversees production of television projects; establishes production
objectives, storylines, techniques, and styles; program, test, and evaluate
television production equipment; assigns work and establishes schedules for
production staff; arranges meetings with clients; provides quality assurance
standards and establishes operational methods and procedures for production;
ensure compliance with internal and external standards and regulations;
evaluates production activities; writes scripts; designs, programs and
implements all video and audio technical production systems; develops equipment
recommendations; assists in budget planning; performs related duties as
assigned.
Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of: project management and supervision;
programming methods, practices, equipment and terminology used in video,
staging, and theater production; mobile production and communication systems;
analog and digital television systems, formats and standards; satellite/cable
television systems; microwave telecommunications systems; standard and wireless
audiovisual equipment and related computer hardware and software systems;
computer networks, supplies, maintenance, repair and operating procedures; OSHA
performance standards.
Ability to: manage complex broadcast staging products;
coordinate and recommend technical solutions for projects; coordinate and
supervise the work of others; evaluate, design, and implement complex audio and
video broadcast systems; write and design project requirements; establish
cooperative working relationships with persons contacted in the course of
performing assigned duties.
Training and Experience
Any combination of education, training, and experience that
provides the required knowledge and abilities.
An example of this would be a college degree in broadcasting and/or
supervisory experience in video production.
Special Conditions of Employment
Positions in this class must
be able to stand for extended periods of time; be exposed to prolonged
vibration, chemical fumes, and hot environments; crawl through small spaces and
work in cramped areas; use eye-hand coordination over extended periods; lift up
to 50 lbs. After hours and/or weekend work may be required. On-call via
telephone and/or pager required. Some positions may require a Class D Driver’s License.
