Job Summary
Coordinates and performs technical and analytical work involved with the implementation of the District’s risk management program. This includes the functional areas of risk identification and risk control.
Scope
This position
works in the area of Legal Services, Risk Management.
Work contact includes administrators,
faculty, staff, external vendors, and governmental agencies. Equipment used includes standard office
equipment.
Supervision Received
This position reports to the District Risk Manager; receives general direction regarding routine matters and specific instructions regarding non-routine matters.
Supervision Exercised
This position
provides work direction to the assigned clerical staff.
Representative Duties
Identifies and
analyzes loss exposures; develops loss exposure and loss history
information
for annual insurance renewals; assists in the coordination, preparation
and
distribution of monthly and quarterly statistical reports to councils
and
agencies; quantifies accident trends and historical loss data;
maintains
records relating to liability exposure documentation; assists in the
processing
of external and internal certificates of insurance; processes routine
property
and casualty insurance claims; works with third party claims
administrator in
the investigation and evaluation of claims and identifies corrective
action
strategies; assists in the development and implementation of risk
control
programs; assists in the development and maintenance of safety plans;
organizes
safety drills and exercises; assists staff in understanding related
safety
plans, procedures, guidelines, and codes; coordinates general safety
inspections; maintains records in support of Risk Manager’s
responsibilities
for MIRA, OSHA, EPA, and other initiatives; serves on standing and ad
hoc
committees to provide data on claims as well as suggested risk control
actions;
performs related duties as assigned.
Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of: general
risk management principles; working knowledge of government compliance
programs; MCCCD policies and procedures; research and data analysis
methods and
techniques; operational practices, procedures, software applications,
and
equipment used in assigned areas.
Ability to:
administer certificates of insurance program; process routine claims;
explain
and make recommendations in accordance with risk control policies,
procedures,
and practices; analyze losses for appropriate training and risk control
procedures; identify solutions, opportunities, and risks of proposed
actions;
organize workflow; communicate effectively orally and in writing;
establish
cooperative working relationships with persons contacted in the course
of
assigned duties; analyze data and reach sound conclusions; conduct
investigations, determine the causes of losses, and recommend
corrective
actions; establish cooperative working relationships with persons
contacted in
the course of performing assigned duties.

Special Conditions of Employment
May require
investigations of claims after regular working hours or on weekends. Some positions may require a Class D Driver’s License.
