Job Summary
This position will troubleshoot, research, text, and fix the
automated time and attendance system problems; assist and train end users with
utilizing the time and attendance system; assist with testing in related areas
of the Human Resources/Payroll System.
Scope
This position works in the area of Human Resources/Payroll.
Work contacts include coordinators, administrators, faculty, staff, students,
vendors and outside government agencies. Equipment used includes standard
office equipment.
Supervision Received
This position reports to the Payroll Manager; receives
general direction regarding routine and standard matters and specific
instructions regarding non routine matters.
Supervision Exercised
May provide work direction and/or procedures to assigned
staff.
Representative Duties
Assists with research and responds to problems and questions
regarding payroll policies, procedures, computer applications and legal
requirements concerning Time & Labor and employees pay; will respond to
inquiries and requests from colleges to operational Time and Labor issues;
assists in the research, planning, coordination and implementation of various
Payroll and Time & Labor functions; works with the Coordinators in testing,
resolving and implementing research and audits for the accuracy of the payrolls
reasonableness; calculate and process transactions and correct inaccuracies
(i.e. Time and Labor and Payroll procedures); participates in the testing of
Time and Labor, payroll processes and reports; develops and conducts testing
for end users on specific operational processes and procedures; will develop and
run queries; will verify payroll system set up tables; will calculate all
deductions for off-cycle checks, including taxes, voluntary and involuntary
deductions; performs related duties as assigned.
Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of: computerized time and attendance and payroll
processing systems; Human Resources/Payroll operational processes; payroll
accounting and reporting practices and writing procedures; complex mathematical
calculations and statistical recordkeeping; standard office practices and
procedures.
Ability to: maintain ongoing knowledge of time and labor and
interpret Human Resources/Payroll policies and procedures to others; maintain
confidentiality; develop and run queries; prepare and test reports and
reconciliations; explain computer system needs to coordinators and/or
programming staff; communicate effectively orally and in writing, establish
cooperative working relationships with persons contacted in the process of
performing assigned duties.
Training and Experience
Any combination of education, training, and experience that
provides the required knowledge and abilities.
An example of this would be college coursework/degree in business
administration, human resources or a related field and/or responsible
experience in time and labor and payroll, with a human resources/payroll
system. Experience directing the work of others.
Special Conditions of Employment
May be required to work extended hours to meet deadlines.
Positions in this class may
require prolonged monitor viewing. Some positions may require a Class D Driver’s License.
