Job Summary
Manages and maintains water source, distribution system and
treatment plants. Maintains and repairs a variety of light and heavy equipment,
vehicles, and power production equipment.
Scope
Work contacts include staff, administrators, regulators,
contractors, and vendors.
Supervision Received
Receives general direction regarding routine and standard
matters and specific instructions regarding non routine matters.

Representative Duties
Maintains and assesses treatment system; establishes
chemical treatment protocols to ensure ground water meets Federal and State
regulatory requirements; acts as the liaison between the campus, Environmental
Protection Agency, Arizona Department of Environmental Quality, and Salt River
Pima Maricopa Indian Community regarding water quality standards and issues;
ensures routine and special sampling testing meets Environmental Protection
Agency standards; oversees routine and preventative maintenance and repairs on
valves, pumps, piping, storage tanks, meters, analyzers, chlorine injectors,
motors, actuators, control systems, and emergency power generators; identifies
routine and non-routine operational problems and equipment malfunctions through
the interpretation of data provided by the process control system; operates and
maintains potable water source, distribution system and arsenic treatment plant;
selects and recommends vendors and contractors, evaluates prospective vendors
to ensure appropriate certificates and meet applicable standards; contacts
contractors and vendors to request price quotes, coordinates contracted
services, obtains repair and maintenance items and ensures all work and
supplies meet applicable standards; maintains budget; maintains and repairs a
variety of vehicles and equipment including cars, vans, trucks, diesel
tractors, power production equipment; sweepers and miscellaneous small engine
power equipment; contacts vendors to obtain replacement parts and price quotes
and maintains various records; performs related duties as assigned.
Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of: Safe Drinking Water Act, Environmental
Protection Agency and Arizona Department of Environmental Quality or any other
applicable regulations as it pertains to potable water standards; water system
operations, methods, procedures, principles and related mechanical components;
design, implementation and operation of Arsenic Treatment Plants and the
removal of arsenic from potable water.
Ability to: maintain, repair and analyze problems affecting
the water system and fleet; perform mechanical repairs and service on vehicles
and various equipment; follow written and oral instructions; prepare and
maintain logs, reports, and test data; prioritize schedules and tasks and
complete work within specified time periods and deadlines; use, maintain and
repair a variety of vehicles, heavy and light equipment, hand and power tools;
communicate effectively orally and in writing, establish cooperative working
relationships with persons contacted in the process of performing assigned
duties.
Training and Experience
Any combination of education, training, and experience that
provides the required knowledge and abilities.
An example of this would be experience in the operation and maintenance
of a potable water system, wells, treatment plants, fleet operations, heavy
equipment, power production, and diesel and gas engines.
Special Conditions of Employment
Position requires on call 24 hours.
Some positions may require a
Class D Driver’s License.
