Job Summary
Supervise and manage the technical services and quality of
acquisitions of materials requested by the District’s college libraries;
oversee the construction and maintenance of the on-line library catalog system.
Scope
This position works in the area of library technical
services. Work contacts include staff,
administrators, faculty, other libraries and vendors. Equipment used includes standard office equipment.
Supervision Received
This position reports to an assigned administrator; receives
general direction regarding routine and standard matters and specific
instructions regarding non‑routine and sensitive matters.
Supervision Exercised
Depending on
location/department, may supervise the positions of Acquisitions Technician,
Catalogue Assistant, Library Clerk and/or other assigned staff.
Representative Duties
Provides technical assistance in the planning and
implementation of the computerized library systems; plans data transfers;
coordinates policy revisions; prepares databases for migration to the new
system; coordinates training for library staff for implementation of new
system; oversees library database integrity and quality of the processing and
delivery of new materials to the libraries; reviews procedures and techniques
and recommends changes to improve efficiency of equipment and meet user needs;
develops policies and procedures that promote consistency and efficiency;
manages assigned personnel; provides information and direction to users to
determine system utilization and requirements; authorizes and monitors budget
and expenses; performs related duties as assigned.
Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge
of: cataloging, serials, acquisitions and interlibrary lending practices;
methods, practices and terminology used in library systems design; general
accounting and budget methods; project management.
Ability
to: supervise assigned staff; manage, plan and organize projects; identify,
analyze and recommend solutions to problems; analyze impact of policy revisions
on systems; communicate effectively orally and in writing; establish
cooperative working relationship with persons contacted in the course of
performing assigned duties.
Training and Experience
Any combination of education, training and experience that
provides the required knowledge and abilities.
An example of this would be a college degree in library science or
related field and/or experience in system implementation in a supervisory
capacity.
Special Conditions of Employment
Some positions may require a Class D Driver’s License.
