Job Summary


Coordinates operations and provides tutoring services for students in the Learning Center.


Scope


This position works in the area of the Learning Center.  Work contacts include administrators, faculty, staff, students and the community.  Equipment used includes standard office equipment, and various instructional support media equipment.


Supervision Received


This position reports to an assigned administrator; receives general direction regarding routine and standard matters; specific instructions regarding non‑routine matters.


Supervision Exercised


Depending on location/department, may supervise the positions of Learning Associate, Computer Lab Tech, Receptionist and/or other assigned staff.


Representative Duties


Manages, supervises and coordinates the activities of staff; establishes work priorities and work schedules; develops operational rules and procedures for the Learning Assistance Center; collaborates with faculty to identify students who need standard and specialized tutoring; recruits and trains tutors; evaluates tutors in techniques and methods and monitors their effectiveness; oversees make‑up testing and monitors alternative testing; oversees maintenance of student records and test materials; assists the Director in the design and implementation of facilities plans; assists the Director in budget preparation and monitors requisitions; may assist the Director in center fiscal planning and in writing grants and proposals; gathers a variety of statistical data; prepares reports and publicity materials; designs and updates record keeping and tracking systems; evaluates and selects materials for purchase; manages equipment status and repair; makes presentations on a variety of learning assistance topics; conducts LAC tours;  acts as liaison to faculty and other college departments; performs related duties as assigned.


Knowledge and Abilities


Knowledge of: tutoring techniques; learning assistance programs; a variety of learning styles; administrative and instructional support learning assistance technologies; teaching, learning and collaboration techniques.


Ability to: coordinate a multi‑purpose, multi‑discipline, comprehensive Learning Center; administer budget; interpret statistical data; develop educational plans; maintain student records; recruit, evaluate and train staff and tutors; communicate effectively orally and in writing; establish cooperative working relationships with persons contacted in the course of performing assigned duties.



Training and Experience


Any combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge and abilities.  An example of this would be a college degree with broad academic background and/or experience in college level learning assistance programs.


Special Conditions of Employment


Some positions may require a Class D Driver’s License.
