Job Summary
Coordinates and directs a minority services education
outreach program in conjunction with service area schools and community groups
for the purpose of increasing the enrollment and retention of minority
students.
Scope
This position works in the area of multicultural
services. Work contacts include
prospective students, community leaders, staff, faculty and high school
administrators. Equipment used includes
standard office equipment.
Supervision Received
This position reports to an assigned administrator;
administers program with minimum supervision; receives general direction
regarding routine and standard matters, specific instructions for non-routine
and sensitive matters.
Supervision Exercised
Depending on
location/department, may direct work of administrative interns, departmental
secretary and students.
Representative Duties
Directs a minority services educational outreach program for
the college; develops, plans and initiates educational outreach activities in
schools, community agencies, community organizations and related organizations
to encourage minorities to attend higher education/post-secondary programs;
prepares reports, materials and formal presentations for program use and
implementation; trains and directs student assistants to aid in implementing a
minority program; coordinates efforts and activities with student services
directors, instructors and administrators for purposes of facilitating
enrollment, tutoring, retention, program development and related activities as
necessary; educates employees regarding the culture of the institution;
maintains records on program activities; performs related duties as
assigned.
Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of: educational philosophy and environment;
minority population(s) to be served; program development and public relations.
Ability to: develop, coordinate and implement programs and
services tailored to the needs of the minority community; communicate
effectively orally and in writing; establish cooperative working relationships
with persons contacted in the course of performing assigned duties.
Training and Experience
Any combination of education, training and experience that
provides the required knowledge and abilities.
An example of this would be a college degree in education, sociology,
social work, counseling, psychology or related field and/or experience in
social work, counseling or psychology.
Bilingual preferred.
Special Conditions of Employment
A valid Class D Arizona Driver's License is required.
Working Conditions
This position requires frequent local travel.
