Job Summary
Assists the Payroll Manager in coordinating, implementing
and maintaining the on‑line District payroll system and related taxation,
reporting, and computer operations applications.
Scope
This position works in the area of human resources/payroll. Work contacts include administrators, faculty, staff, students
and outside agencies. Equipment used
includes standard office equipment.
Supervision Received
This position reports to the Payroll Manager; receives general direction regarding routine and
standard matters; specific instructions regarding non‑routine matters.
Supervision Exercised
May direct the work of other staff.
Representative Duties
Researches and responds to problems and questions regarding
payroll policies, procedures, computer applications and legal requirements
concerning employees pay; acts on behalf of manager as assigned; assists the
manager in the planning, coordination and implementation of various payroll
production cycles; coordinates computer system needs with programming staff;
maintains liaison with Computer Services, college and district offices;
develops schedules, testing cycles and monitors payroll production cycle;
audits the accuracy of the payrolls by performing tests and analysis checking
for reasonableness; calculate and process transactions and correct inaccuracies
(i.e. tax overrides, accumulator changes, W‑2 corrections); verifies
payroll account for specific deductions, taxes, etc.; participates in the
testing of processes and reports; develops and conducts testing for end users
on specific operational processes and procedures; performs related duties as
assigned.
Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge
of: computerized payroll systems; payroll accounting and reporting practices
and procedures; complex mathematical calculations and statistical
recordkeeping; standard office practices and procedures.
Ability
to: maintain ongoing knowledge of and interpret payroll policies and procedures
to others; maintain confidentiality; prepare and test reports and
reconciliations; explain computer system needs to programming staff;
communicate effectively orally and in writing; establish cooperative working
relationships with persons contacted in the course of performing assigned
duties.
Training and Experience
Any combination of education, training and experience that
provides the required knowledge and abilities.
An example of this would be college coursework in business
administration or a related field and/or responsible experience in payroll with
a human resources/payroll system.
Experience in directing the work of others.
Special Conditions of Employment
Maybe required to work extended hours to meet payroll
deadlines.
Working Conditions
Positions in this class may require prolonged monitor
viewing. Some positions may require a Class D Driver’s License.
