Job Summary
Directs and coordinates the area of institutional research,
locates external funding, and assists in developing proposals for grants.
Scope
This position works in the area of Research and
Development. Work contacts include
administrators, faculty, staff, students, community and business organizations,
state and national funding agencies.
Equipment used includes standard office equipment.
Supervision Received
This position reports to the Dean of Instruction; receives
general direction regarding routine and standard matters; specific instructions
regarding non‑routine and highly sensitive matters.
Supervision Exercised
May direct work of students and temporaries.
Representative Duties
Conducts research studies for the college; determines design
of the study; collects and analyzes data; writes research reports; provides
support services in the area of research and proposal development; coordinates
with the District's Analytical Studies Department to provide information,
expertise, and technical assistance; acts as an advisor to faculty and
administration in program evaluation and planning; assists faculty and
administration in developing programs for educational improvement and
innovation; researches and evaluates external funding sources for potential
support of college programs; may monitor and evaluate administration of
externally funded projects; assists in the preparation of proposals for
external funding and grants; performs related duties as assigned.
Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of: research design; proposal writing; sources of
external funding; use of computers in statistical and educational applications.
Ability to: use theoretical research methods; conduct
statistical analyses on computer; seek outside funding sources; plan
effectively; coordinate work of individuals and groups; communicate effectively
orally and in writing; and establish cooperative working relationships with
persons contacted in the course of performing assigned duties.
Training and Experience
Any combination of education, training, and experience that
provides the required knowledge and abilities. An example of this would be a college degree in education,
administration, behavioral/social sciences or related field with experience in
statistics research techniques, and administrative or development experience.
