Job Summary


Designs, develops, coordinates and implements donor, alumni and community recognition events and programs for the Chancellor, Vice Chancellor Community Affairs and Student Development, and District Director Development for the purpose of identifying, cultivating, and recognizing former students, community members, corporations, foundations and associations to encourage their financial and non-financial support of the district and its colleges.


Scope


This position works in the area of Resource Development. Work contacts include Governing Board members, Foundation Directors, Chancellor, Chancellor’s Executive Council, administrators, faculty, staff, students, alumni volunteers, community organizations and business organizations. Equipment used includes standard office equipment, tape recorder, 35mm camera and audiovisual equipment.


Supervision Received


This position reports to an assigned administrator; receives general direction regarding routine matters and specific instructions regarding non-routine matters.


Supervision Exercised


Provides work direction to assigned staff, students and volunteers.


Representative Duties


Designs and coordinates donor recognition and other special events for the District Resource Development Department; develops relationships with external partners such as the Chancellor’s Advisory Council, the Maricopa Community Colleges Foundations, corporate partners, charitable foundations including, individual donors and volunteers, to promote community and corporate support for college programs; designs and coordinates the implementation of strategies for identification and location of alumni/community resources; coordinates the specialized communications programs for district donors, alumni and community members; coordinates special events for alumni participation; designs and prepares reports and recommendations for current and prospective events and official functions that enhance the mission of the district and its colleges; develops content and writes internal/external communication with alumni, donor, and volunteer constituencies; advises district personnel in planning, marketing and promotion of special events; researches market and develops sources of supply for promotional and recognition material; negotiates price and assesses savings in terms of cost, product suitability and need for promotional materials; develops and maintains district special events budget; advises and mentors student interns; develops and maintains a district master calendar; performs related duties as assigned.


Knowledge and Abilities


Knowledge of: donor and volunteer relations and recognition strategies, communications, marketing, public relations and event planning practices and techniques; public relations philosophy, community relations, and activities of community colleges.


Ability to: work independently; develop, coordinate, and evaluate complex projects and activities; coordinate all aspects of communication for the projects or events; establish appropriate reporting systems; develop and implement donor/alumni relations programs; provide work direction to assigned staff; use computer databases; meet deadlines; develop budgets; motivate and work effectively with volunteers; communicate effectively orally and in writing; establish cooperative working relationships in the course of performing assigned duties;


Training and Experience


Any combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge and abilities.  An example of this would be a college degree and/or experience in public relations, journalism or marketing.


Special Conditions of Employment


Position may require evenings and weekends. Some positions may require a Class D Driver’s License.
