Job Summary
Provides operational guidance to a Financial Aid office,
acts on the Director's behalf as requested, and performs the most technically
difficult and responsible financial aid duties including determining award
amounts and making awards in all programs.
Scope
This position works in a Student Financial Aid office. Work contacts include administrators, staff,
students, parents, banks, lending and granting agencies. Equipment used includes standard office
equipment.
Supervision Received
This position reports to a Director, Financial Aid; receives
general direction regarding routine matters and specific instructions regarding
non‑routine matters.
Supervision Exercised
This position supervises Financial Aid staff, students, and
temporaries.
Representative Duties
Reviews and acts on financial aid requests, including
validation of information presented, determination of need and award amount,
awarding funds, and conducting follow‑up for all programs; evaluates and
acts on appeals; prepares reports required by funding agencies; trains and
directs the work of Financial Aid staff; responds to difficult financial aid
inquiries and problems; researches, analyzes, and interprets funding agency
guidelines; maintains liaison with funding agencies; communicates new
guidelines to staff; evaluates and recommends office procedures and systems;
acts on behalf of Director as requested; performs related duties as
assigned.
Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of: student Financial Aid policies, practices, and
guidelines; basic financial recordkeeping and reporting; standard office
practices, procedures, and equipment.
Ability to: maintain, apply, and communicate updated
knowledge of the regulations and guidelines of various financial aid programs;
direct the work of others; type alpha‑numeric data; learn to use
financial aid computer system and equipment; maintain accurate records;
maintain confidentiality; communicate courteously and effectively with persons
from a wide variety of backgrounds and cultures and persons who may be
experiencing distress; establish cooperative working relationships.
Training and Experience
Any combination of education, training, and experience that
provides the required knowledge and abilities.
An example of this would be experience in a financial aid program
involving significant technical and program coordination responsibilities.
Special Conditions of Employment
Some positions may require a Class D Driver’s License.
