Job Summary


Prepares proposals seeking funding for programs, and initiatives that promote teaching, learning and institutional development.

 

Scope


This position works in the area of Resource Development.  Work contacts include administrators, faculty, staff, Federal, State, public and governmental agencies and private organizations.  Equipment used includes standard office equipment.

 

Supervision Received


This position reports to the Director Grants Corporate Development; receives general direction regarding routine and standard matters and specific instructions regarding non‑routine and sensitive matters.

 

Supervision Exercised


This position supervises assigned project and temporary staff.

 

Representative Duties


Plans, analyses and develops written proposals from public and private sources; conducts and complies analysis on grant related information; prepares information used for proposal meetings; writes sections or entire proposals based on program guidelines; coordinates development of proposal projects to ensure all sections are complete and requirements are met; provides associate directors and staff with technical assistance and training in analyzing problems and identifying alternative solutions; advises on preparation and monitoring of proposal budgets; conducts grant writing workshops; researches questions regarding grant application to ensure guideline requirements are met; provides information about grant application guidelines; performs related duties as assigned.

 

Knowledge and Abilities

 

Knowledge of: principles and practices of all phases of funding opportunities in higher education; proposal writing requirements; computer applications and programs, spreadsheets, and databases; persuasive writing techniques.

 

Ability to: read and interpret complex proposal application guidelines and requirements; supervise the work of others; recognize external funding opportunities that match district goals and college priorities; write persuasive proposals; analyze problems, identify alternative solutions, conduct informational research; make effective oral presentations; conduct group meetings; communicate effectively orally and in writing and establish cooperative working relationships with persons contacted in the course of performing assigned duties.

 

Training and Experience


Any combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge and abilities.  An example of this would be a college degree in and/or experience in the research and development of externally funded projects, with experience in persuasive writing, and project management.

 

Special Conditions of Employment


Working Conditions


This position requires evening/weekend hours; some local and out-of-state travel. Some positions may require a Class D Driver’s License.
