Job Summary

Develops, plans and supervises the programming and broadcasting activities of the Sun Sound volunteers to insure continuous operation of the office and on-air programming.

Scope

This position works in the area of Sun Sounds. Work contacts include administrators, staff, local agencies and organizations and the general public. Equipment used includes computer, reel-to-reel, cassette recorders and standard office equipment.

Supervision Received

This position reports to the Director Sun Sounds of Arizona; receives general direction regarding routine; standard matters and specific instructions regarding non-routine matters.

Supervision Exercised

Supervises volunteers.

Representative Duties

Recruits, trains and provides direction for volunteers; coordinates the activities of all source materials used for broadcasting; develops and maintains volunteer forms, records and training materials; plans, develops and recommends programs; analyzes surveys and focus group input; administers oral reading tests to perspective volunteers; plans and coordinates on-air programming; creates, implements and maintains the on-air programming of Sun Sounds; produces bimonthly newsletter; maintains liaison with outside organizations; disseminates radio reading service materials; develops and organizes volunteer participation in fundraising projects; performs related duties as assigned.

Knowledge and Abilities

Knowledge of: volunteerism; computer and recording equipment; broadcasting and programming.

Ability to: recruit and train volunteers; schedule volunteers to cover programs; communicate effectively orally and in writing; establish cooperative working relationships with persons contacted in the course of performing assigned duties.

Training and Experience

Any combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge and abilities. An example of this would be coursework in public relations or related field and/or demonstrated experience in broadcasting and programming in a supervisory capacity.

Special Conditions of Employment

Some positions may require a Class D Driver’s License.
