Job Summary

Manages the technical operations at the station including programming and the administration of broadcast software.

Scope

This position works in the area of Sun Sounds. Work contacts include administrators, staff and the public. Equipment used includes control consoles, digital and analog recorders, satellite demods, studio equipment and computers.

Supervision Received

This position reports to the Director Sun Sounds of Arizona; receives general direction regarding routine; standard matters and specific instructions regarding non-routine and sensitive matters.

Supervision Exercised

Supervises the positions of Radio Announcer and/or other assigned staff, and volunteer workers.

Representative Duties

Operates audio control consoles; operates tape delay and duplication facilities; maintains accurate FCC logs; programs computer logs to air audio events using broadcast software; assigns and supervises on-air staff; produces special programs; serves as associate producer of all on-air fundraising; executes special projects, oversees document conversions; including community outreach activities; responsible for the production of station program guides; works as on-air fundraiser; performs related duties as assigned.

Knowledge and Abilities

Knowledge of: the operation and administration of a radio station; operation of all studio equipment; FCC rules and regulations; fundraising.

Ability to: create and edit programming; monitor and adjust computerized automation system; supervise others; compile and edit program guide information; create and coordinate community outreach efforts; act as on-air substitute as necessary; communicate effectively orally and in writing; establish cooperative working relationships with persons contacted in the course of performing assigned duties.

Training and Experience

Any combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge and abilities. An example of this would be college coursework in radio broadcasting and/or on-air experience in a public or commercial radio station and/or experience with promotional and fundraising campaigns.

Special Conditions of Employment

Positions in this class may be required to lift up to 50‑lb objects and crawl through small areas; prolonged monitor viewing. Some positions may require a Class D Driver’s License.
