Job Summary
Provides clinical supervision to students in a controlled
hospital setting and/or laboratory supervision to students in the college
setting. Develops clinical rotation
schedules, documents student performance, maintains records and coordinates
physician-student conferences and rounds.
Scope
This position works in the area of respiratory care. Work contacts include physicians,
administrators, faculty, hospital staff and students. Equipment used includes standard office equipment and a variety
of respiratory, lab and hospital equipment.
Supervision Received
This position reports to a department chair; receives
general direction regarding routine and standard matters; specific instructions
regarding non-routine matters.
Supervision Exercised
Directs the work of students.
Representative Duties
Supervises, instructs and evaluates students in a hospital
and/or college lab; plans, prepares and conducts student conferences;
demonstrates and teaches respiratory care skills and procedures; performs
independent clinical instruction, lectures and demonstrations; observes and
assesses return demonstrations from students; coordinates student work with
staff respiratory care practitioners; performs clinical evaluation of student
skills; provides feedback for improvement of student performance; advises
faculty of student skills and deficiencies; assists in tutoring students
deficient in clinical skills; develops student clinical rotation schedules;
maintains record of student clinical activities; coordinates physician-student
conferences and rounds; assists faculty to improve laboratory and clinical
courses; performs related duties as assigned.
Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of: all aspects of respiratory care; teaching and
training techniques, methods and practices; record keeping procedures.
Ability to: supervise and evaluate students; organize
workflow with various locations; conduct student conferences; develop
schedules; direct students; maintain accurate records; communicate effectively
orally and in writing; establish cooperative working relationships with persons
contacted in the course of performing assigned duties.
Training and Experience
Any combination of education, training and experience that
provides the required knowledge and abilities.
An example of this would be a Registered Respiratory Therapist
credential from the National Board for Respiratory Therapy with a valid
Respiratory Care License for the State of Arizona with work experience as a
respiratory therapist, utilizing all aspects of respiratory care including
clinical education.
Special Conditions of Employment
Possession of a R.R.T credential and a valid Respiratory
Care License for the state of Arizona. Some positions may require a Class D Driver’s License.
Working Conditions
Positions in this class may be required to lift up to 50-lb.
Routinely exposed to communicable diseases and radiation from x-ray machines,
which may present health hazards. Requires local travel.
